Bibliography of Hungarian Ethnography
The current bibliography of Hungarian ethnography, first edited in 1971, was published from 1989 to 2004 by the Library of the Museum of Ethnography.
Items in the bibliography published after 2005 exist only in the online edition. No printed version is published any longer.
Fields of data collection
Beyond the works published in Hungary, the selection comprises works dealing with Hungarian ethnography written by authors living abroad, as well as works of Hungarian researchers published abroad. Due to the increasing inter- and trans-disciplinarity of humanities in Hungary, the bibliography includes not only items of ethnography, folklore studies and anthropology, but also related fields of social history and sociology.
Search options
The online catalogue offers more search options than the printed version did. Besides the usual searching methods, large thematic units can also be searched: since 2005 the bibliographical items are assigned to 37 subject areas. The English translation of the Hungarian subject areas can be found below.
Availability of documents
The bibliographic database contains a number of documents that are not located in the Library of the Museum of Ethnography; these items do not have shelf-numbers.
